Vanessa O’Brien Beary
Senior Counsel
Vanessa brings to the RED Law team more than twenty years of experience as a litigator and employment law expert. She has substantial private practice experience with major law firms in San Francisco and New Orleans, where she practiced appellate and trial court litigation on a range of complex business issues, including employment discrimination and compensation matters.
Vanessa has represented companies in both state and federal courts and has both settled and litigated significant cases, including class action lawsuits for major, multinational corporations. She chose to leave corporate practice to devote her considerable expertise to counseling and advising individuals on achieving their employment goals. She works with RED Law clients especially in negotiating offers of employment, exit agreements, and resolving prelitigation disputes.
In addition to her work for RED Law, Vanessa oversees career development initiatives in the Tulane Law community as Assistant Dean for Career Development. She cultivates and strengthens relationships with employers and alums and counsels Tulane law students on professional development issues with a focus on judicial clerkships and careers within the sports law industry. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the New Orleans chapter of the Federal Bar Association and teaches Legal Research and Writing at Tulane.
A native of New Orleans, Vanessa earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Tulane and her J.D. from UC Hastings. During law school, she studied international and comparative law in the Netherlands and served as a judicial extern for the Hon. Martin Jenkins in the Northern District of California. She loves baking, running, and rooting for the New Orleans Saints.
