Julia Stephanides
Senior Counsel
With nearly a decade of experience as an employment lawyer, Julia is a spirited and effective advocate for her clients. She acts as a trusted advisor to executives through new job offers, mergers, founder disputes, exits, and other employment transitions. She also represents employees facing discrimination, harassment, and whistleblower retaliation and is RED Law’s resident expert in disability and protected leave cases.
Julia brings to RED Law a unique combination of corporate startup experience and knowledge of labor and employment litigation. She started her career at leading Silicon Valley firm Gunderson Dettmer, advising technology companies on matters from formation to exit and assisting in mergers and an initial public offering. Julia was then trained in employment law at leading plaintiffs’ employment firm Outten & Golden. She represented executives in negotiating employment contracts, equity awards, and severance agreements and advocated for clients facing discrimination and harassment at work, both in pre-litigation negotiations and in arbitration and litigation. Her primary focus was on gender discrimination and sexual harassment cases. Following her time at Outten & Golden, Julia gained arbitration skills and labor law expertise working in-house for the Writers Guild of America West, where she represented screenwriters in cases against studios at arbitration (and won all cases she arbitrated).
After navigating a challenging health condition, Julia became passionate about holistic health and realized the extent to which American norms like rugged individualism and hard-driving work culture cause and perpetuate health issues. This personal experience informs her special interest and expertise in disability and protected leave cases. It also inspired her to found a consulting practice called Legally Holistic, which blends psychology, law, and wellness to teach women and workers how to connect with their needs and advocate for themselves. You can find out more on her Legally Holistic website.
Julia is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law (J.D., 2014) and the University of California, Los Angeles (B.A., 2009). She loves the forest, healthy cooking (especially from Danielle Walker’s cookbooks), writing, design, gardening, and her book club.
